Searching Subjects

Remember: You have a choice of searching either the books, poetry or short stories database.

The subject headings used in The Source, broadly follow the SCIS headings used in schools throughout Australia. However, as The Source indexes mainly works of fiction the compilers felt the need to expand the subject headings to include more conceptual terminology. For example: Boasting, Homesickness. This has involved many difficult choices and we would appreciate feedback and suggestions for alternate or more appropriate headings.

See (or Use) references:

See (or Use) references will transfer searches to the terms used by The Source.

For example a search using the term Abduction will result in the message:
Your search has been modified to use the subject heading Kidnapping.
Following will be a list of books, poems or short stories indexed under Kidnapping.

Alternatively a search may result in a choice of subject headings.

For example a search using the term Choice will result in the message:
The Source does not use Choice as a subject heading. Select from:
Decision making Freedom Independence
The alternative headings are linked for further searching.

See also (or Related) references:

Related terms or see also references are displayed, where appropriate, under the message: Related subjects you may care to use in order to extend your search. Following will be a list of books, poems or short stories indexed under the heading searched.
The related headings listed are linked to further searches.
