A re-working of the well-known nursery rhyme The House that Jack Built which is used as a structure for a tale about the enduring cycle of the seasons as reflected in the garden; a garden that Isabella digs and plants.
A highlight is the vivid, highly stylized and joyous illustrations by Rebecca Cool combining collage (fabric) with acrylic paint. From endpaper to endpaper every page opening is a carnival of colour and shape, the forms reminiscent of Picasso with a touch of Miro.
Would work well as a choral reading with each child assigned a line in the cumulating text.
The perfect book for spring!
